What I'm Reading

Same as last week :)

What I'm Writing (+one goal)

I decided to get started with the line edits sooner rather than later ;) My goal is to have it done by the end of the week. And then it'll be time to send it off to the first round of beta readers!!!

What Works For Me

Not taking long breaks, it seems. Usually I have at least a week between edits, but I wanted to get right to it with the line edits this time. It's going surprisingly smoothly so far.

What Else I'm Up To

I finished my epic Kingdom Hearts replay the other night. All the games, from start to finish. Feel a bit lost now...

However, I do have to get on a plane next month, so maybe I'll take KH3D with me for another play-through BECAUSE OF REASONS.

*fangirl squeal*

I am also enjoying some time off work, hence the ambitious editing goal ;) Back to the day job next week.

Have a good one :D

  1. Best of luck with your writing goal, you can do it! :D

I think long breaks from writing are something I need to avoid, too; I'm stuck in the middle of a break from longer fiction right now and all it's really doing is sending me into a bit of a mid-life crisis, so I need to force myself back into it. :P

    Enjoy your time off work!

    1. Thanks! :D

Long breaks have their time and place, but it can be tricky to get going again. Hope it works out for you :)

  2. Glad to hear avoiding long breaks is working for you -- it's something I plan on trying this year, too. :D Also, that hot chocolate looks SO GOOD!

  3. I agree about the not taking long breaks. I guess every writer is different, because I know a lot of people swear by them. Enjoy your time off work, and good luck with your editing!

    1. I've taken longer breaks in the past, but this book doesn't seem to want to work like that.

  4. Another Play thought? I've been stuck on Anti-Black coat for a year. My younger brother usually helps me when I'm stuck, but I haven't seen him for months. :( Thanks for sharing. That hot chocolate looks amazing.

    1. Aaaargh I feel your frustration because my favourite chunk of KH3D is *right* after that fight ^^; Or right before. I suppose it depends on where you're up to with Sora ;) Level grinding is the only way to go.

  5. Good luck with the line edits! :) I don't take long writing breaks because I tend to find it hard to get back into a project afterwards.

    That hot chocolate looks awesome!

  6. I disagree about long breaks ;-) I'm currently on a 6 week break from writing and it feels great. But also-- everybody works differently! LOVE that you drank a triple hot chocolate. Good luck with your writing, Miss Cole!

    1. I'm not sure I could take a break longer than a couple of weeks, but like you say - everybody works differently. It fascinates me ^_^

    1. I sure did :D Nothing like a week of the day job to get the writing done.

  8. Good luck with your edits! Taking too-long breaks can be detrimental, though sometimes a longer break is just what we need to see something with fresh eyes and do a much better job of editing.

  9. Oh my gosh... That hot chocolate looks ridiculously amazing. I'm not big on long breaks either. I feel like I lose my momentum and the flow of the character's voice, if that makes sense. Best of luck with your line edits, Cole!

    1. That makes perfect sense. I think it's why I haven't stopped with this book.

The hot chocolate comes highly recommended. Check your local Starbucks ;)

  10. Not taking long breaks...yessss! As someone who has done this a few times and then struggled like crazy to get back into a writing routine again, I can say long breaks are the worst. Hope your line edits are going well. And can you send some of that yummy hot chocolate my way??? ;-)

    1. Yeah, anything longer than a couple of weeks is too much for me. I'm just going to keep on keeping on with this book because it's working really well right now :D

  11. That picture of hot chocolate is sending me to the kitchen to make hot chocolate right now! I have friends who were obsessed with Kingdom Hearts. I never played it though. I do some RPGs still, but I have to really balance that time with writing. Gaming is such a time suck.

  13. that hot chocolate is tempting me. Mmm..now I want one! Sometimes taking short breaks after finishing a draft or a round of edits works for me as well. Good luck with your line edits!

  15. I don't usually take a break between the first draft and a first read-thru, but then I like a bit of a break after that so I can go back and see bigger issues with fresh eyes.
That hot chocolate looks yum! Have a great week!
