What's Up Wednesday

It's time for What's Up Wednesday, hosted by the lovely Jaime and Erin :D

What I'm Reading

I am reading Blue Lily, Lily Blue. I have to admit I didn't like The Dream Thieves nearly as much as The Raven Boys, although I did like the focus on Ronan. Good news is I'm enjoying Blue Lily, Lily Blue waaaaaay more :D

I'm also working my way through this fun piece of educational material:

The more you know... ;)

What I'm Writing

So, as I mentioned during Monday's tea review, I ripped a 20 page chunk out of Magical Girl!Story. This tends to happen with my manuscripts, and I've never regretted it. Right now, I'm just bridging the gap I created... and realising how the final chunk of the book will require heavier edits than expected.

This book will be great when it's done. I am SO determined.

What Works For Me

Night time iPod listening. After I'm done with my day, there is nothing I love more right now than putting my headphones on, shutting out the world, and letting my imagination run away from me.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah.

What Else I'm Up To

To Do lists. Lots and lots and lots of To Do Lists. Ah, the joy that is the end of a year :P

Have a brilliant week! And Happy Thanksgiving to all my US readers :D Save some turkey for me!!!!

  1. I just picked up a copy of BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE this weekend, so I need to get on that before I'm the last person on the planet to read it. Glad to hear you're enjoying it more than the last one. Best of luck filling that 20 page gap! You're a brave lady for hacking apart your story like that. I'm sure it will be all the more awesome in the end for it! :)

    1. lol, you'll get there, no worries. It's going to be weird waiting for the next one though, after powering through these three pretty much back to back.

Thanks ^_^ The story will be better with less waffling, I feel ;)

  2. Glad to hear you're enjoying BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE! THE DREAM THIEVES is sitting waiting on my to-read pile (maybe after FEED... and after THE PASSAGE...) so at least I'll know to prepare for a quality drop.

    1. After The Passage ;)

Yeah, having just finished Blue Lily, Lily Blue, there's a definite quality drop from the original book, which for me has not been matched.

  3. I loved DREAM THIEVES, but I loved BL,LB much, much more. That Maggie can do no wrong in my eyes. :-) Best of luck with Magical!Girl story. I'm rooting for you -- I am SURE it'll be amazing once you're finished with it! Have a great week, Cole!

  5. I love your attitude towards your WIP, good luck with all those edits! :) And I'm glad to hear Blue Lily, Lily Blue is a good read - I still need to read The Raven Boys before I'm the last person in the galaxy to have read it...

    Have a great week!

It is completely mad that we're this close to 2015. Wow!

  7. Good luck with your edits and revisions! A book's creator is the best person to decide if something needs to go, and what needs to take its place.

  8. This: and realising how the final chunk of the book will require heavier edits than expected.

Isn't that always the case? I wrote a story I thought would be my "easy" manuscript after reworking the same MS for a year and half. That sucker got revised to an inch of its life. I became ruthless about what needs to be kept and what can go after writing that.

Best wishes with your edits. Hang in there!

    1. I've definitely forced myself to be ruthless. I've cut some of my favourite scenes, all in the name of making this book EPIC.

      Thanks!

  9. What you said about ending your day with your iPod reminded me of when I was younger. Much younger. Here, let me date myself. Around the time I started secondary school, John Peel on Radio 1 was my preferred bedtime listening. Peel used to specialize in indie music, but I used to enjoy his 10-midnight show because he'd also play special sessions from current and up-coming bands, and you never knew who you might "discover." I also listened to the Beatles. I have pleasant memories of drifting off to sleep to "A Day in the LIfe". Ahhh... :)

All the best with your writing/editing this week, Cole! :)

  11. I'm addicted to to-do lists, so I've always got a bunch on the go. Pretty bad when you need lists for your to-do lists lol. I have a copy of BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE, but I just haven't really been in the mood to pick it up. Weird because I couldn't wait to get my hands on Book 2 when it came out. Hopefully I'll get to it soon. 20 pages cut! Hey, if it makes the story better than that's awesome. Good luck! :D

    1. I've been so against daily to do lists, but they're essential now if I want to get everything done.

Hope you enjoy Blue Lily, Lily Blue when you get to it :)

  12. Good luck bridging the gap you left in the manuscript. Sometimes that just has to be done.

I need to catch up on Stiefvater's series.

  14. I actually think I liked The Dream Thieves better than Blue Lily, Lily Blue (though not better than The Raven Boys) but that could've just been my mood this time around.
Good luck with the edits. Sounds like you don't have any problem killing off those darlings!

    1. I feel like The Raven Boys still had the best story of them all, but I've enjoyed the others plenty as well.

Haha, no problem at all ;)
