What's Up Wednesday

Hello again, Wednesday! It's time to join in Jaime and Erin's bloghop :D

What I'm Reading

I pretty much read The Infinite Sea in a day. WOW WOW WOW. Easily my favourite YA of 2014... at the moment. I have two more preorders I'm equally excited about...

Then I read a really creepy book called The Lighthouse Keeper by Alan K. Baker. Definitely recommend this if you want a good horror book. Can't really talk about it without spoiling it, but I really liked it.

Then I read Emma Adams' excellent MS :D SINCERELY HOPING THE NEXT BOOK ONLY TAKES 24 DAYS!!!! I hereby DEMAND to have it on my desk by the end of October!!!!

Now I'm hanging out with my ol' buddy Jack Reacher again, in The Hard Way. It was a bit meh at first, but then there was an excellent twist and, as always, I'm hooked.

What I'm Writing

Nothing yet! Aaaargh, I really wanna get started with this edit...Just got to wait for the retreat on Sunday and then I dig in ^_^

What Else I'm Up To

Booked a trip to Scotland to see my middle brother and sister-in-law :D I'm really excited to be heading up there next month. I'll be going to Glasgow, Edinburgh, then renting a car to take myself off to the Highlands.

I'm also replaying Kingdom Hearts 3D as a way of forcing myself to not edit :P I adore Sora. He's just so adorably nice. Every time I turn the game on, it reminds me it's been TWELVE YEARS since the first game came out. O_O Nomura-san, I'm ready for Kingdom Hearts 3 anytime now ^_^

What Works For Me

Taking a break. Between beta reading, regular reading, violin-playing, and gaming, I am SO ready to get back to my WiP. I think about it every day, and it feels good to know I'm gathering all the necessary creative energy I'll need to get this book into shape. I'm going to make this into the best book I've ever written.Yes, it will be better than Colony!!!

*strikes dramatic pose*

I will tear my MS to shreds and create AWESOMNESS

I'll be on a blogging break for the next two weeks, so I'll catch up with you all in October. Bye! :D

  1. Taking time to gather creative energy is hard, but so worth it - you're going to rock it when you start editing! Have a great week! :-)

  3. I keep forgetting THE INFINITE SEA is already out and that I still need to order a copy of it. Must put that on the to do list!

I'm SO jealous that you're going on a trip to Scotland! I've never been, but I'd love to go. Someday! Hope you have an incredible vacation! Have fun with those edits once Sunday rolls around too! :)

  4. *squeals* *runs around hyperactively* Haha, I can't guarantee the sequel will be done THAT quickly, but my characters are already pestering me. :P Book 2 is definitely underway!

I still need to read THE INFINITE SEA! Love that series.

Enjoy Scotland! ^_^ And you'll rock those edits! :D

  5. Taking a break can only be for the good. It helps to build up momentum, creative energy, and inspiration for writing, editing, revising, painting, drawing, or whatever we want to do. We also have a chance to take our ideas for a book in a different, better direction while we're away.

  6. I haven't finished Kingdom Hearts 3D yet. I'm stuck on the Anti-black Coat. I've been stuck for over a year... My little brother helped me level up before I moved, but I haven't pick up the game since.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Level-grinding is the only way to get through any KH game. That, and making sure your Dream Eaters are powered up and giving you loads of extra abilities :) Good luck!

  7. Ooh, I'm so envious of your upcoming Scotland trip! I hope you'll share photos when you get home, and have fun!

  8. I pre-ordered THE INFINITE SEA, but it'll have to wait until I'm done with WAR AND PEACE. That'll hopefully be soon, since I really enjoyed THE 5TH WAVE.

Have a lovely break, Cole. I guess you won't be needing your passport to cross the border... ;)

  9. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I take a break from a WIP and then come back to it. It usually doesn't suck as bad as I remember... lol

  10. Have a great trip to Scotland, enjoy your break, and don't forget to take Jack Reacher with you. I love him, too. He's my favourite literary antihero these days.

  11. Touring around Scotland sounds super fun. Since it's closer to home for you, you may not think it's quite so exhotic. I still hope you have a fabulous trip. And I'm sure your next WIP will be just as epic as your dramatic pause picture.

    Have a great two weeks!

    1. Yeah, I definitely don't consider Scotland to be exotic; rather another part of my own country, albeit one full of my fellow redheads. Yay! :D

Man, I hope my book can be that epic!!!

  12. Having to wait for a WIP that you're really excited about is hard. But Kingdom Hearts is always wonderful.

  13. Based on the comments, I better read The 5th Wave before I get to the Infinite Sea!
Have a great time in Scotland! That's one place I definitely want to visit sometime.

  16. Have fun in Scotland! That is on my bucket list of places to visit, especially now that I'm like obsessively watching Outlander. It's so beautiful up there!

I agree on breaks. They can do so much magic for your creative juices.

And OMG THE INFINITE SEA! I requested it from the library, but it's not my turn yet! Can't wait to read it. I blasted through The 5th Wave and expect to do the same with this one!

  17. Enjoy your retreat. Taking a break I feel is like medicine to your soul and really helps getting your creative juices working over time.

  18. You've got me totally intrigued by the Lighthouse Keeper...

I'm a bit envious of your trip to Scotland. I keep telling myself I HAVE to go, especially since I'm since a just a quick skip away, but then I'm so overwhelmed, I can't decide where to go!

I hope this isn't obvious but, why are you holding yourself from editing? For me editing can be glorious or painful (usually a bit of BOTH) and I'm editing a work right now that is definitely taking longer than I'd hoped. Let us know as soon as you enter editing mode and we can commiserate together!

    1. It's a good book, but talking about it in any way will ruin it :P Read it and find out! *waves fingers mysteriously*

I'm lucky because my middle brother and his wife live in Glasgow, so I've got a good base. And I've always wanted to see the Highlands so off I go, whee!

I needed some time away from the book in order to gain some perspective and solve a few of the problems. Plus I knew I had this Sunday as a retreat day and it was a perfect way to say "right, that's when the editing will begin" ^_^
