What's Up Wednesday

Hi everyone! It's time for What's Up Wednesday, Erin and Jaime's fantastic bloghop! :D

Still can't change the header on mine yet. Autumn has not arrived here in my part of the world. Summer is clinging on!

What I'm Reading

Busy week for reading! Let's see. I finished Fever Crumb and really enjoyed it. I will be picking up the rest of the series once my TBR pile has shrunk some more. After that I read another long serving member of said pile, The Railway Viaduct, a fun historical crime novel. Then I read, yes, another book I've owned for years, The Paladin Prophecy. Sadly, I subsequently had my first DNF since July. Take Back The Skies started well, but the second I realised the MC was a total, complete and utter Mary Sue, I couldn't carry on with it. Now I'm reading The Infinite Sea, the follow up to the astonishing The 5th Wave. Here's hoping it lives up to expectations.

What I'm Writing

The rewrite is compete!!!!! :D :D :D

Obligatory

82k in 44 days, which is pretty much exactly the same as Colony. Although I have no idea why I'm calling it a rewrite. Of those 82,000 words, maybe 10,000 are from the previous version of Resistance. Really I should call it "New book with a few old bits chucked in" complete!!!!

I'm taking some time off to prepare for editing. I will probably Tweet a picture of the print out soon though :P

What Else I'm Up To

Back to my violin at last. I met my new violin teacher on Monday and I'm really looking forward to working with her.

What Works For Me

Music. Muuuuuuusic! Fellow Kingdom Hearts fans, you have to check out Project Destati. They've put together an EP and an album of some of the series' best music. I can't wait for more from them.

The great thing is, not only am I inspired as a writer, I'm inspired as a violinist. MUST GET BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. YAY for the violin and YAY!!!! for finishing your rewrite! Great job! And yes, taking time off is a good idea. It'll give you some distance from the story, which will help revisions.

I'm so excited for The Infinite Sea, especially because I so enjoyed The 5th Wave. What's going to happen next???

  2. Yay for finishing revisions, and yay for editing! If you need a beta reader once the edit is done, I'll be available for a manuscript swap (or just straight-up betaing, no need to swap if you're not able to beta right now).

I loved the sample pages I saw of Resistance so I'm very very very excited about this rewrite!

    1. Thanks, Emma! I will definitely send it your way, but it won't be any time yet. I am not one of those brave souls who shares her first draft. And I'd love to do a swap! ^_^

Those sample pages are now near the end of this rewrite :P It's a really different book. In fact, it's going to need an entirely new title.

    2. Whoa! I could never ever pull off 82k in 44 days! That's impressive! Congrats on finishing your rewrite, especially since you powered through it so quickly! Enjoy your time off before edits and the chance to practice your violin more. :)

  4. KINGDOM HEEEEARTS! Oh my god, I'm checking out that music right now. KH soundtracks mostly make the playlists to my WIPs, arghhh so good.

Also, big congrats on the rewrite! You're a machine!! :D Have a wonderful week!

      Thanks!

  5. I love Kingdom Hearts. The music is the best. My little brother can play any song on the piano just by listening to it a couple times, so he memorized most of the music from the series. My favorite is Ventus' Theme. It gives me chills.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Ventus' Theme is heartbreaking, as is Xion's theme. That game breaks me every time ;_; Who will have ice cream with Roxas?!?!?!

  7. YAYYYY for finishing your "rewrite"!!!! What a great feeling!!!!

  8. Finished revisions are worth a HUGE happy dance! YAY!!! I had to laugh at the only 10,000 original words. Couldn't we just say that we write the entire book several times instead of calling it revisions (would seem to fit better.)
And yay to the violin. Here's wishing you tons of luck with the new teacher!

  11. so glad you got your rewrite done! Awesome! I can't wait to read the infinite sea, you'll have to share your thoughts on it when you're done. Glad you're getting back to the violin, I wish I was more musically inclined, but i can definitely appreciate the hard work that goes into learning an instrument.

  19. Good job on your rewrite! I have one of those I'm starting to work on, but already it's more of-as you said- "new book with old chunks". It's a little daunting lol. And enjoy your violin classes!
