What's Up Wednesday

Hi everyone! Wednesday is here! Hello, Hump Day! :D

Come and join in at Jaime and Erin's blogs.

What I'm Reading

I have officially read my 50 books for 2014, so now I'm just going to keep going and see how many I read in total.

Book number 50 was The Return of the Discontinued Man, the fifth in the Burton and Swinburne series.  It was a lot of fun. I really enjoy this series and really recommend it.

Then I spent some quality time with Mr Jack Reacher again.  I really enjoyed The Enemy. It was set in 1990 and had a nice subplot with Reacher's mother and brother.  The main mystery was pretty good, too, even though I guessed some of it pretty early on.  I like the character because he's a real antihero.  Looking forward to reading the next one soon.  I like to break the Reacher books up with others.  Something tells me I won't catch up with the series until 2015 :P I didn't realise how many books there are, and a new one just came out. Wow.

After that, I read some sci-fi recommended to me by my brother. Check out the sheer 90sness of the cover!

My brother warned me it would be a fairly nasty book, and he wasn't wrong.  Huuuuuge trigger warnings necessary. It was a hard read, but it was short and compelling.

Now I'm reading No Harm Can Come To A Good Man... which is an intense book. The author, James Smythe, certainly specialises in dark, dark stories.

What I'm Writing

28k into the rewrite :D I'm really excited for Sunday when I go to the marathon writing session.  Here's hoping it proves super productive.

What Else I'm Up To

Unfortunately, I was the victim of bank card fraud this week. Someone cloned my bank card and attempted to use it in NYC.  My bank declined the attempt, contacted me and we sorted it all out, but UGH. UGH! It's such a horrible feeling.

Entered Pitch Wars, too. Good luck, fellow potential mentees :D

What Inspires Me

My.

Bed.

  1. A bunch of kids at my college got their credit card numbers stolen. The funny thing was, the MO was the same for everyone: A $150 purchase was made somewhere odd (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS etc.) in a different state. Weird...
Also congrats on reading 50 books. I wish I had that sort of time. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Haha, love that cover! It's so old school! I'm glad you had a warning going into it about the content though.

BOO about the bank fraud. That sucks, but I'm glad it seems like it was sorted fairly smoothly. Sorry that happened!

Good luck with your marathon writing session (I need one of those!) and with Pitch Wars!! Wooohoo!

Congrats on the amazing rewrite progress! :D Sorry to hear about your bank card, but glad the bank caught it before anything bad happened.

  4. Wow. Everyone is up so early over there. :) I'm suffering some insomnia myself, so I totally agree with being inspired by bed. I'm sorry about the bank fraud. So scary! I'm glad it worked out OK.

My only experience with bank fraud was when a bunch of pins got stolen, mine among them. When I tried to buy minecraft, they tagged it as an out of country purchase and froze my credit card. At Christmas. That was fun. Have a great week!

  5. That's terrible about the bank fraud, but I'm glad they weren't able to actually steal anything. It's still a major violation though, so I can see why you still feel upset about it.

You've done awesome on your reading goal this year! I haven't been as diligent as you in that department. Good luck with your marathon writing session on Sunday! Wishing you lots and lots of words! :)

  8. Lol! There's nothing. . .NOTHING better than a bed ;) Okay, maybe chocolate. So sorry to hear about your bank card, but at least, it got figured out. And good luck to the marathon session (sounds awesome!) and pitch wars.

  10. I've got a 50 book challenge going on, too, but I am woefully behind. The new Reacher will definitely be one of them, though - it doesn't come out in the States for a few more weeks, though.

That SUCKS about the bank card. Glad your bank caught it immediately.

    Good luck with PitchWars!

    1. Good luck! I love the Reacher books. They're good, solid thrillers. Even my least favourite one was still perfectly readable.

      Thanks :D

  15. Bank card fraud is such a pain. It's also a pain when they freeze your card when YOU used it (it's happened to me a few times). But I understand- they're just being careful!
Good luck with pitchwars!!! And that book is so ghetto!

    1. Yeah, I've had that happen too. Argh, frustration! And yeah, I'm happy to know I have a security conscious bank!

Thanks ^_^ Haha, the book is pretty old school.

  16. Oh NO, I'm so sorry to hear about your bank card, how awful. My credit card was stolen a few years back and they spent $80 at McDonalds. What can you possibly buy that's $80 there!? It's a dreadful feeling, though, I'm glad your bank stopped them before any real harm was done...

Good luck with Pitch Wars! :)

  17. Ugg! Sorry about the bank card thing. Those things are such a pain to sort out. Someone stole my Amex number and used it to go to Thailand. And while I was on hold for 16 hours trying to sort it out, I kept thinking "I want to go to Thailand!"

Good luck with Pitch Wars. Fingers crossed for you.

And your bed inspires you...Hahahaha! Yes. Hope you get some zzzzz's.
