What's Up Wednesday

Wednesday's here! Join in the fun at Jaime and Erin's blogs ^_^

What I'm Reading

So, I wound up DNFing on Rivers of London.  It's a perfectly well written book and I'm convinced it's amazing... I just couldn't get into it no matter how hard I tried. Here's hoping my brother gets on better with it :)

I'm now beta reading the lovely Robin Moran's MS :D

What I'm Writing

Yeah, slow week. Only up to 36k. I lost most of Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to a combination of my life and a severe headache.  BLEH.

Good luck to everyone who's taking part in #SFFpit on Twitter today :D If you have a sci-fi or fantasy MS of ANY type ready for querying, be sure to check it out!

What Else I'm Up To

Receiving rejections, including one for my father, Mr Burke. Not sure how he feels about that ^^;

(For those of you new to my blog/don't follow me on Twitter, Cole isn't my surname.  I'm Miss Cole Burke :D)

OH, BUT YOU CAN'T STOP MEEEEEE! I spent yesterday morning sending out my next batch.

COME AT ME, REJECTIONS!

What Inspires Me

Not so much inspiring as ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS. Screen Junkies' Honest Trailer for The Lion King.

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. That's the PERFECT gif for the query trenches. :D And ooh, Robin has a manuscript up for betaing? How exciting!

  2. That gif, hahaha! Pretty much how I'm feeling at the moment. I don't think I've ever received a rejection addressed to the wrong person (though one did get my genre completely wrong). :P

Hope your headache's better and you can get back to writing soon!

    1. Yup, it's a first for me. I've had the same agent reject the same manuscript twice, but never had the wrong name.

  3. He's a threat to our lives. He could eat us all! Ha! That was a great way to start my morning. Thanks!

  4. Lol! I love the gif you chose!

  5. I love Honest Trailers - now I must resist the urge to binge watch them for the next hour :)

  6. Hahaha, great gif usage. Funnily enough one of my friends really struggled to get through Rivers of London, so you're not the only one!

    Have a great week!

    1. It's a shame, because I can tell it's a great book... It's just not for me.

  7. Ha! I've been reading your blog forever and assumed that Cole was your surname. I've always wondered about your first name. Thanks for clearing that up, COLE. :-) Also, rejection... Boo. I feel ya, and it sucks. But yay for moving forward and sending out new queries. My agent always says, "ONWARD!" which is a mindset I've adopted too. Best of luck with this next batch, lady!

Onward is the only way to go. To success!

  8. Boo to headaches, but yay to sending out a new batch! Best of luck!

  9. Mr. Burke? Nice. I like how we're supposed to get everything right on our queries and you get Mr. Burke. Boo. I hope querying is going all right otherwise. Here's to a no rejection week! And good luck with #SFFpit today! I saw your pitch up there this morning. :-)

    1. Yeah, not the best rejection ever but soooooo totally not the worst. I've had one that, had it been the first I'd ever received, probably would've broken my heart.

      Thanks! I got a request from #SFFpit! YAY :D

  10. Oh my god, that video completely cheered me right up! I think I know what I'll spend my evening doing. ^^

Again, thanks for being brave enough with betaing! =)

  11. Rejection is crappy but I love that gif and your attitude! That's about all we can do, right? Just say bring it on and keep on going. ;) Good luck!

  12. That gif totally cracked me up, because that's exactly what rejections feel like. I can't believe an agent called you Mr. Burke. I've seen agents complain about queries getting their name wrong, so that's kind of unprofessional.

I just discovered Honest Trailers the other day & spent a break from writing watching a few. So hilarious! Hope there's less interference in your week so you can get those words flowing again!

    1. I guess she figured "Cole's a male name... Mr Burke!" That'll teach me to not add "Miss" :P

Thanks! Here's to a more productive week.

  17. I hate when so many love a book and I just can't get into it. I feel like a failure. But then, it's good to remember not all books are for all readers.

Great attitude in face of rejection! That gif is amazing!

    1. That's what I tell myself, too. It's definitely a good book, and that's why I really hope my brother likes it :D

      Cheers!

  21. You should play our Rejection Game. Each rejection you get, you get a Prize. It's like a game show in reverse. The more you lose the more prizes you get. :)

Sorry about the headache. Hope that you're feeling better.

Have a spectacular rest of your week!
