What's Up Wednesday - Undead Edition

It's another What's Up Wednesday, hosted by the lovely Erin and Jaime. Join in! :D

What I'm Reading

I read Feed last week by Mira Grant, and now I'm reading the sequel, Deadline.  Both are fantastic zombie books with a really different set up to things like The Walking Dead or Resident Evil.  And there's a whole element of the plot dedicated to blogging, which is very relatable for the likes of us ;)  I'm really enjoying the series and definitely recommend it.  Just do not pick up the second book and read the blurb before you've read the entirety of the first book. Talk about epic spoilers.

What I'm Writing

Progress has been painfully slow due to the sinusitis (which has finally cleared up) and general life stuff, but Dream!Story is sitting pretty at just over 37k.

And, ooooh, that shiny new idea that distracted me from this book the first time is making a comeback... Must. Resist. Urge. To. Write...

What Else I'm Up To

Resident Evil Replay Month is in full swing :D

I'm taking care of the ones that belong to you, Jaffa. NO YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM BACK!

Soooo many happy memories... Aaaand memories of terrifying nightmares from when I was an eleven-year-old playing this series... Hah hah haaaaaaah...  Playing the older games make me realise how much the most recent games (5 and 6) have really lost sight of what made this series so amazing back in the day.  Every time I replay them, I remember why I love them so much. Yeah, I know the early ones are hella cheesy (Jill sandwich, anyone?), but they're so good!

So, hey, Capcom, if any of you just happen to be here on this totally random blog, feel free to give me a proper Resident Evil game with Leon and Claire as the main characters again... or give us a proper Resident Evil 2 HD remake...

^_^

Whatever you do, just make sure Leon's in it, okay? Great.

What Inspires Me

...Zombies...

Have a great week everyone!

  1. No no no.

It's GERBIL sandwich. He says it very clearly.

    1. Nope, you're wrong. Listen again. He kind of laughs. It's Jill. A Jill sandwich.

We can both agree that she is the MASTER of UNLOCKING though ^_^

Resident Evil - the game that keeps on giving.

    2. I wish I was a MASTER of UNLOCKING. Some days I can't even get in the door and I have to sleep in the garden.

    3. OOOH MY CAAAAAAAWD! You should work on those skills, brah

  2. Now I'm going to have Zombie by The Cranberries in my head all day. Haha. Sounds like a great week. Hope you get to feeling better and can get back to the WIP.

  3. Sounds like a zombie-filled week! I've never played any of the Resident Evil games, but I do enjoy House of the Dead (even though I'm terrible at it, haha). Hope you can make progress with Dream!Story and avoid the temptation of that shiny new idea! :P

    1. Oooh, I haven't played a House of the Dead game in aaaaages. I was terrible at it, too :P

  4. I've never played Resident Evil, but I've seen the movies :) The last one (or the one before that, I've lost count) was just terrible. I had no clue what was happening for most of the movie.

Glad you're feeling better and I hope you enjoy your zombie filled week!

    1. As a huge fan of the games, the movies officially do not exist in my mind. Unofficially, I've seen the first one and my friends and I cheered when various people were zombified because wooooow that's a terrible film.

  5. I started Feed not too long ago myself. I'm only on chapter three or something but I'm enjoying it so far - it's funny and I love the whole blogging aspect to it. Thanks for the warning - I'll make sure not to go near the second book until I've finished the first one!

It's good to hear you're starting to feel better. Have a lovely week! :)

    1. I came *this* close to spoiling the end of book 1 for myself but something made me stop just in time. I'm onto the third one now. The second one is better than the first.

      Cheers!

  6. Happy to hear you're feeling better. Sinusitis = crappy! As are allergies, which I'm currently battling. Bleh. I know too well what it's like to be tempted by a newer, shinier project. Unlike you, I have no willpower and often end up caving to the temptation. Be strong! Oh, and as for sequel blurbs spoiling the books that come before--boo! I hate when that happens. Hope you're having a great week, Cole! :D

    1. ...Yeah, my willpower isn't looking so good right now ^^;

  7. It's hard reviewing books in mid-series without giving away spoilers, but you can at least avoid major spoilers. Can't they do the same for cover blurbs? *sigh*

My SecondBorn was lamenting last night how she thought Skyward Sword wasn't as challenging as previous Zelda games. A trend?

Glad you're feeling better. All the best with the writing projects this week, Cole! :)

    1. You'd think so, right? Like, if you picked up the wrong book first, BOOM! Spoiled. Like, it's not blatant, but it's specific enough to draw the obvious conclusions.

A sad trend... either that or I'm succumbing to nostalgia...

  8. 37k is fantastic! And OMG I'm such a wimp. I can't watch or play zombie films. I watched the first season of The Walking Dead and covered my eyes half the time haha.

    1. Cheers!

I *love* The Walking Dead. One of my favourite shows right now.

  9. I'm not really into zombies, not gonna lie. I did enjoy the comedy of that movie with Nicholas Hoult, but clearly since I can't even remember the title, it wasn't that memorable for me! Lol.
    37k, great job!

    1. lol! I haven't seen it. I kinda like my zombies to be apocalyptic rather than comedic.

  10. I have to confess I'm not a huge zombie fan, except for WARM BODIES, but I can see why people think they're fun (and creepy). Glad your sinusitis has finally cleared up. Allergy season is getting into full swing here now, so I feel your pain. Blah. Anyway, 37k is awesome for Dream!Story! Keep beating away that shiny new idea lol! :D

    1. Zombies are just a fun way to create loads of drama... plus having played the Resident Evil games since the mid 1990s, I grew up with them.

      ...The SNI may have won...

  11. Glad to hear you're feeling better and enjoying your RE replay. I can't play games like that because it stresses me out too much BUT I do like watching people play. It's like horror movies - I want to know what happens. This post really was full of the undead!

Yes, sometimes it's good to give these posts a running theme.

  12. So sorry that your were feeling poorly. :( Sinuses are great until they're not. (There's a snot joke in there somewhere that I resisted)

And I'm terrible at resisting Shiny New Ideas. Be strong. Ya know, instead of making Pinterest boards and pages of notes and a playlist. Because that would be Wrong. ;)

Hope you have a spectacular week! And if there's ever a Zombie Apocalypse, I want you on my team. :)

    1. Took 2 weeks to properly get over it, but I'm doing just fine now, thanks :D

...I already have the playlist... which is probably why I also have 1k of words for this SNI... Whoops!

LOL, I'll be on your team for sure!

  13. I read the opening of Feed and really enjoyed it...man, I should get back to that one and finish it. I usually don't like zombies, but you're right. That one has such a unique approach!
