What's Up Wednesday: What a Difference a Week Makes Edition

Hi everyone! It's another What's Up Wednesday and you know you wanna join in :D Stop by the blogs of the lovely Jaime and Erin to take part.

What I'm Reading

Finished No Safety in Numbers. I liked it enough and I'll probably pick up the sequels once the final book is published.  Then I read Control Point, the first in a military fantasy series.  That was okay.  Now I'm reading Asylum by Madeleine Roux.  Not going to be powering through it though becaaaaause...

What I'm Writing

Oh what a different place I am in compared to last week! I changed the narrative from first to third and BOOM! My wordcount is currently 26k, way over my 20k goal for the month.  This past weekend was amazing. I found my stride and I just went for it :D Feels so good to be writing like this again with a new book. Thanks for all of your support last week. Much appreciated!

(And that SNI has agreed to wait in line, yay!)

What Else I'm Up To

I have finally seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Steve is just so adorable. It's so refreshing to have such a nice character in a world full of snark and wit.  AND HIS LITTLE NOTEBOOK DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW. But... but... Oh, my feels. My poor, poor, woefully unprepared feels! Then I went back and watched the first film and... and... ;__________________________;

What Inspires Me

AHEM!

Exploring lots of new music at the moment to keep ye olde imagination ticking over and I gotta say, I looooooooove Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches.  It really fits with the madness my MC faces:

Have a great week everyone! :D

  1. So, I know 3rd person is sort of unpopular, but I used it for my last manuscript, and I learned to truly love writing in it. I swore I was only capable of 1st person, present tense (the most popular choice for contemporary YA), but now I'm having a hard time dropping back into that POV as a revise an older manuscript! Anyway, best of luck with your draft... Sounds like you've found some fantastic momentum. Have a great week!

    1. I was the other way around - never thought I could write in first, but then my last book proved me otherwise. However, this time it didn't work and it's back to good 'ol third :)

  2. Congratulations on your WIP, it's always great when you find your stride! :)

I still haven't seen the new Captain America movie, but I've heard it's really good. I'll have to try and see it before it leaves the cinemas.

    Have a great week! :)

  6. It's amazing how much the POV can change the whole feel of a novel. This is why I debated long and hard over 1st or 3rd with mine right at the beginning. Keep up the great word-count, Cole!

My wife and older kids went to see the new Captain America movie this past weekend. They all thoroughly enjoyed it too.

    Have a wonderful week! :)

    1. Now that I've got it right, it's a lot easier to write ^_^

It's an amazing film. Just what I needed!

  7. Yay for hitting your writing groove. I changed POV this week too. So far the change has actually slowed down my writing, but in the end I think it will make for a much better story.

Keep up the good work and write, write, write. Have a great week!

  8. I love Steve Rogers so much. He's my favourite Avenger, hands down. (And I'm not even American LOL.) I thoroughly enjoyed CA2, and I'm also enjoying that gif you shared. Ahem, indeed. ;-)

That's fantastic that switching from first to third has had such a great impact on your WiP. I think whatever I write next will be in third person. I'm finding it hard to reign in my own voice in first person, to the extent that a lot of the characters I write (in different stories) all start sounding the same. Not good. Here's to a week full of more awesome words! :-)

    1. I'm not American either, but I can't get over how much I adore Steve. He's just so sweet...

Any excuse to use that gif. Any. Excuse.

First voice is great when you really have a handle on the character, but the distance third offers is working a lot better for me.

  10. Must...peel my eyes...away from Cap's backside...Okay that required super powers to do. :P

I'm so glad you enjoyed The Winter Soldier, but not terribly surprised, of course! I just love how honourable Steve Rogers is. Seriously, I hope they keep cranking out these Avengers movies, because I'll never get tired of them!

Nice to hear your WIP is back on track. Wow, did you ever beat your weekly goal! Hope this week is just as productive! :)

  11. I feel exactly as you concerning Steve Rogers. It's nice to see a NICE guy, a NICE superhero. The guy is just so GOOD and I love that. Those GIFs make me want to see the movie again.

  12. I have been REALLY tempted to write my current SNI in third person, but am really comfortable with first and just want to see how it goes. BUT how awesome for you that you've accomplished so much and are in the ZONE! Go YOU!

  17. I quite liked Asylum. :) Very creepy and I loved the inclusion of real asylum photographs.

Captain America is growing on me. It wasn't my favourite of all the Marvels but the more I see him, the more I'm coming to like him a lot. He's a cutie pie and I loved the relationship between him and the Black Widow.

    1. I don't have particularly strong feelings either way about Asylum, but I'll get to that next Wednesday ;)

I loved their relationship too. And as much as I love Iron Man, there's something so adorable about Steve that endears him to me so much more.

  18. Can't WAIT to see that movie!! Glad your writing is back in the groove.
