What's Up Wednesday!!!!

Happy Wednesday! Please do join in at Jaime and Erin's blogs.

What I'm Reading

I DNF'd Acid by Emma Pass.  It was just not for me.  I've decided to do a little comfort reading, so I'm rereading Sabriel by Garth Nix, which has everything to do with the cover reveal for Clariel. That sooooo just became my most anticipated book of the year.

What I'm Writing

Hit 21k on the new idea.  It's slow going, and frequently feels like I'm pulling teeth, but progress is progress.

Oh, and there were more monsters ;)

What Else I'm Up To

I've been rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I haven't seen most of it since it originally aired, and I gotta say, the angst is a lot harder to stand now I'm an adult ^^; I'm just like "would you all just talk for two minutes because most of your problems would be gone."

Still love Xander, Willow, Oz and Cordelia.  Still can't stand Angel. Ugh, he's so boring.  He's slightly more entertaining when he's evil, but yeah... not his biggest fan :P It's interesting, though, going from watching something when you were a teenager to watching it in your twenties.  I'm coming at it from a really different perspective.

What Inspires Me

You know when you're just listening to all your music on shuffle and then the perfect song comes on and your imagination is like "INSPIRATION!!!!"

Well, I'm going to be in the US for the next two weeks so I'll be back when I can! :D Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful week (or two!)

  1. I have Garth Nix's trilogy sitting on my shelf downstairs, and I've never gotten around to reading it. Now that there's another book coming out in the series, I'm kind of glad about that because I won't have a crazy long wait in between!

Tiptoe by Imagine Dragons is on my writing playlist too. Love that song! Actually, I write to a bunch of their songs, but that one's probably my favourite after Demons.

Hope there's less tooth pulling and more word flow this week! :D

    1. READ THEM NOW! NOW NOW NOW!!! Lirael is the best of the three, but they're all great.

Well, I've got about 13 hours of flying to do this weekend so hopefully that'll help me write some more ;)

Sounds like you're making good progress on the new idea! More monsters is always a good thing. :P

Have fun in the States! :D

  6. 21k is great progress!

I'm watching Buffy for the first time as an adult. I'm only about 2 seasons in and I could take Angel or leave him. I adore Willow and love Cordelia. Xander is pretty funny, although his constant quips can get annoying.

Enjoy your time in the U.S.!

    1. Thanks :D It might be slow, but the words are coming.

I've always loved Xander. I'd rather have more Xander than more Angel :P

      Thank you ^_^

  7. I've never read Garth Nix, but I see his name everywhere. I'm hoping my library might stock his books so I can check them out. Sounds like you're making great progress with your WiP. Slow progress is still progress, which is what I have to constantly remind my slow self. Have a great week, lady!

    1. Definitely start with Sabriel. The Old Kingdom trilogy is his best.

Have a fantastic week yourself :D

  8. SABRIEL--another book that's been languishing on my TBR for a long time. I really need to get to some of these books, especially when lots of people seem to love them.

It would be interesting to compare the work of teen YA writers vs. adult YA writers. One of the advantages I think adults have when writing YA is that they've been there, so that can empathize, but also they've come out the other side, so they have perspective. It's one thing to read something that affirms your feelings; but isn't it better to read something that also guides you through them? Just an offhand thought... :)

Have a great time in the States, Cole. Will you be in NC? Even if you are, I doubt you'll be anywhere near me, but I'll wave to you anyway. ;)

    1. Well then, you must get it down and READ IT! :D

I definitely wrote more angst as a teenager than I do now. I had more feelings back then ;)

I will be in NC again ^_^ Here's hoping we have great weather!

  9. Have a great vacation! I'm in the US all the time, but understand it can be a fun place to visit for people from other corners of the world.

I found your a decade later thoughts on Buffy interesting too. As adults who write for teens, it's important to remember that teens have different perspectives on things than we do.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks ^_^ I used to live in NC, so going back is kind of like my home from home.

It's definitely a good way to remember the way you deal with things as an adult is completely different to how you did as a teenager.

      Thanks, you too!

Really? Angel? But he's such a giant mope. Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn. Spike's more entertaining... at least until the later seasons. Each to their own ;)

      Have a great day yourself!

  11. Enjoy your U.S. holiday!

I saw a few episodes or parts of episodes of Buffy years ago, but never got into the show. There reached a point when I just wasn't interested in popular tv shows, particularly not teen shows. Though from what I've heard, Buffy is a very good role model for young women.

  12. I've never read Garth Nix's series, but from the sounds of it it I really need to. I've been hearing a lot about it, so I think it's high time I made it a priority.

You know, I never really watched Buffy. I think I saw the odd episode (my brother was a huge fan), but I think it aired during I time that I didn't really have much time to watch TV. I know what you mean about angst and watching it as an adult. I tried to watch a few episodes of Dawson's Creek (another show I didn't get around to watching when it aired) and just couldn't handle the cheesiness and angst. And Dawson's floppy hair. Bleh. Still, it's kind of fun to check out these shows now. Thank you, Netflix.

Have a great time in the US!

Buffy is still worth watching, but it's definitely a different experience ten years later :)

  13. Hello, Miss Cole! I love it when inspiration happens while listening to a song! But then sometimes that leads to procrastinating because I must make a new playlist for my wip. It's necessary procrastination of course, heehee! :)

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

    1. I know! it's SO EXCITING! It's been way too long since I enjoyed a book this much.

Buffy appeals to all ages, but it's definitely different now I'm older. Maybe because it's one of the only "teen" shows I ever watched.

      Thanks ^_^

  17. I desperately need to read SABRIEL. I never have and I don't know why. Yay Buffy rewatch. I only watched the series for the first time last summer. I think I binge-watched the last four seasons in less than three weeks. It was fantastic.

I wonder if the final seasons of Buffy are better if you binge watch them. I really didn't like 5 and 7 the first time around :P

  23. The CLARIEL cover reveal and the fact that it is coming out THIS YEAR made me sooooo happy when I heard. I freaking love The Abhorsen Trilogy and have been hoping he'd go back to that world again some day. SABRIEL is my favorite. I just wish the new cover looked like the old ones, haha. I was also thinking of doing a reread in the summer before the new book is out.

I rewatched a little bit of Buffy a few years ago in college, and even then I was like WOW, I have different feelings about this show now than when I first saw it in middle school. It's still fun though and holds up surprisingly well. Know what you mean about having less patience for some of the angst though!

    Have fun in the U.S.!
