What's Up Wednesday

Aw, you know you wanna join in! Stop by Jaime and Erin's blogs and have some fun :D

What I'm Reading

Finished the first book in the Lost Fleet series. Wasn't really what I wanted.  Less talk, more space battles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I'm reading The Girl With All The Gifts. So far, so intriguing.

Slow reading week, but that's probably because...

What I'm Writing

...The Shiny New Idea is up to 10k :D Still not in the head-over-heels love phase, but the words keep coming. Yaaaaaay!

What Else I'm Up To

Everything is awesome! Everything is cool when you're part of a team.

Yes, I saw The Lego Movie. Yes, I liked it. No, I can't get that bloody song out of my head AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Sing it brother, SING IT!

And don't forget today is #MSWL on Twitter! Agents will tweet their wishlists :D

What Inspires Me

I received my first rejection for Colony on Monday.  Might be a weird thing to find inspiring, but I am SO DETERMINED! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

This song serves as a pretty fantastic Midweek Motivator, too...

HAVE A TOTALLY AWESOME WEEK! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED BY REJECTIONS!!!!!!!!

*ahem*

^_^

(You do! It's funny. I didn't like it as much as my brother, but it's good!)

  3. Bummer about the agent who passed, but I love your outlook on the whole thing. Rejection is such a huge part of the writing game, and if we can't let it roll off our shoulders, we're in trouble! We saw The Lego Movie a few weeks ago -- so much fun!

    1. It is a bummer, but there are plenty of other agents and one of them is going to *love* Colony :D And you're right - can't take it personally ^_^

  5. Cool that the writing's going so well, Cole. Hopefully, you'll fall in love with the novel--but even if you don't, it's all good writing exercise. And thanks for the reminder about #MSWL. I'm definitely interested to see if anyone's looking for my novel... :)

Have a great writing week, and may the agents be ever in your favour! ;)

And now the Lego movie song is definitely in my head :)

Blah to the rejection, but it's just one and you're right to find it inspiring.

Have an "awesome" week! Okay, seriously, I will be singing that song for days now...

  7. Woohoo! 10k! That's amazing! Reading always takes a backseat when I'm in the writing zone :) I can't wait to take my kids to see the Lego movie, have heard so many great things about it. Hope you get some requests this week :)

  8. Congrats with all your writing. I love that early drafting when the words are flying and the characters are just taking shape in my mind. It's probably my favorite part of the entire process, well other than the book release part. :) Still, enjoy it! And enjoy those rejections too, 'cause you know, the next one will be a yes for sure.

    Have a great week!

  9. Sorry about the rejection. I hope it was at least a form rejection, not something rude and curt like I once got, "No, thank you." I don't want an agent anymore, but I wish luck to people who are interested in traditional publishing.

    1. It was a form rejection. I've fortunately never had one that was rude or curt. Sorry to hear that you did.

  10. Sorry it was a rejection. But it means that your queries are being read and more replies will follow now! Hope someone snaps you up!

Shame Lost Fleet was a disappointment. I think I'd be bummed by the lack of action too.

  11. Love your attitude toward rejections. It sucks, definitely, but I suppose it's a tangible reminder that your work is out there being seen by people. And I suppose that's a really glass half full way of looking at it. O_o (Sorry about the rejection, by the way.)
But hooray for new words! 10K is a really good chunk. Have a great week, Cole!

  17. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and commenting!

I also feel a little reassured that you're working on a new project, and also describe not being totally head-over-heels-in-love with it. My current project is a long time labor of love, but this is the first version I've written of it that I AM absolutely in love with it. The words have always been there... but the storytelling aspect hasn't quite lined up before now. It's nice to know that it also takes others more than one attempt (and more than the first several thousand words) to find the "right" version of something that wants/needs to be written.
