What I'm Reading

What I'm Writing

I am this close to the end of Space!Story's most recent edit. HOORAY! :D

What Else I'm Up To

I've had so much fun finding videogame, film and anime music to play on my violin. I think I might've gone a little mad.  I've been working on my vibrato technique, too. I'm going to have really strong fingers once I get that right.

Oh, and I had a bit of a haircut :D

Before:

After!

Nicely styled... Behind my screen I'm rocking a bedhead

Lost about 16 inches, and yes, most of those inches went to a good cause. It feels AMAZING! That was five years worth of growth the lovely Lucy Grace cut off for me :D Best. Haircut. EVER!

What Inspires Me

You know what, me! ME ME ME! I do! I'm inspiring me! A year ago I couldn't read music and I had no idea how to play a violin.  Now I can do both of those things and I'm getting better every time I play.  So that's one childhood dream that's definitely come true. I can play the violin! Go Team Cole!

I've loved playing this lately:

Next dream, get some books published!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. That top GIF is perfect. The recent arguments to the tune of 'writers shouldn't review' really does my head in.

As you already know, your hair look great. :D And I wanna hear some of your music -- you should put up a video or audio recording some time!

    1. I get both sides of that argument. I'm just gonna stick with Thumper's reasoning for this week :[

      Thanks!

One of these days I'll record something. When I've got all the techniques down and don't squawk so much :P

  2. Wow, you learned to play violin in a year? That's awesome! (coming from someone who, quite shamefully, can't play any instrument). Love the new hair, too. There's something weirdly satisfying about having a good haircut! :P

    1. Learned the basics, sure. I've got a long way to go before I'm really, really, really good ^^;

Oh, this was a very satisfying haircut :D

  3. Your hair looks great!

And Thumper...awww, I loved him when I was a kid.

  4. I'm long overdue for a haircut myself. I've donated twice before, once to Locks of Love (before finding out some disturbing things about it) and then to the Israeli group Zichron Menachem. A good haircut can make one feel like a whole new person.

Look at you! Love your hair, love the color! I would never be that corageous, though. I kinda have a thing with my hair and NEVER cut more than 2in at a time (I'm lying, I cut 6in last year, but it was in serious need. I never intend to do that again lol).
Wow, you learned to play in one year? That's amazing!

    1. When it's gotta go, it's gotta go and I don't regret it at all ^_^

Yup, one year to get the basics down. This year will be working towards sounding more professional :P

  6. I tend to only get my hair cut about once every other year. I cut it short. Then let it grow out. Then hack it off again. It's always a big adjustment right after the cut when I have to figure out how to style short hair again. Your shorter do looks good.

  7. That's awesome that you are inspiring yourself! And you've made AWESOME progress on the violin front. I'm very impressed! Love the new hairdo. I had no idea your hair was so long beforehand. I think it's great that you donated it too. I'd like to do that sometime. :-)

    1. Thanks, Jaime! I can't believe how far I've come in a year either. Makes me excited to see (or, rather, hear) where I'll be a year from now :D

  8. You've rocked the violin this year!

I wish I could get my hair to your former length. My hair grows ridiculously slow and I keep getting impatient and chopping it all off.

    1. Thank you!

Well, if you can hold off cutting for 5 years, you'll be rocking butt length hair too ;)

  9. Zelda has great music! I just rewatched Scott Pilgrim and there's a scene with Zelda music; you have to know it's there but it's a fun fan favorite thing to add in. That movie is all kinds of awesome in case you haven't seen it. Very cool about your violin playing!

    1. It does have great music and it's so much fun to play.

Ahhh, Scott Pilgrim. I, um, can't stand that film. Sorry!

  10. I love your hair, it looks gorgeous.
Congratulations on learning the violin, it's such an amazing achievement. So many people (me included) say I wish I could play so and so, and you didn't just wish, you went and made it happen! You're inspiring me too!
Love the Thumper gif, curious as to the book :)

Well, I realised I could sit around forever wishing I could play or I could get up and start learning. So I started learning. I recommend it to everyone!

Aaaah, the title of the book will remain a secret ;)

  11. I just got my hair cut yesterday, but unlike you, I only lost a couple of inches! It always feels nice to let some go though.
Your GIF just makes me wonder what you're reading because I don't want to waste my time on it! :s

    1. It feels really good to let it go :D My head is so much lighter!

      Aaaah, well, I'm sticking with Thumper's advice because I fear if I start a single sentence about the book, I'll write a novel about why it irritated me so much ^^;

  12. LOL! I've been listening to Zelda music in my head all day! Awesome. Oh--and 18 inches? *gasp* How did you do it? I mean, I think I would die if I lost that much at once (unless I was suffering really REALLY intense headaches from the weight).

    1. You kind of nailed it with the headaches. I had headaches every single day and since I had the big cut, they've pretty much gone. Also I just needed a change.

  17. I love that you went and found music to play from your favorite media. I think it's one of the best parts of learning an instrument. Makes me wish I'd learned piano because there is so much music you can play with just the keys. :) And you are definitely inspiring! Your dedication to music (and writing) is worthy of the spot!

RE: Loki's face. He really does make the best faces. Annoyed, happy, suspicious, he does it all. Even the shifty eyes...just like his namesake. It's uncanny, haha.

    1. And there is sooooo much piano sheet music available too. I've converted some to the violin, but you're right about the piano being able to do so much. One day I'll have to try learning it.

  18. Congrats for the progress you're making on the violin, Cole! Finding music you want to play will help a great deal. That's why a lot of people give up learning instruments--they don't enjoy playing the practice pieces, and perhaps the teachers don't take the time to connect learning the instrument with other things that interest the student. How many kids might stick at piano if they were learning to play the Harry Potter theme? :)

Have a tuneful, and productive writing week!

    1. I think you're right, Colin. Some weeks I really didn't like the pieces I had to practice, especially earlier on when I couldn't play proper classical tracks, but now I kind of have the freedom to try anything I want, so it's great to share that with my teacher.

      Thanks!

  19. Go you! Haha I got excited for you just reading about how you inspire yourself. :) Keep on being awesome and inspiring. And I wish I could cut off 16 inches! Except I don't have the patience to actually grow 16 inches first, but either way. . .

P.S. The Ocarina in Time was definitely the best Zelda.

    1. Thanks! It certainly took a lot of patience, but knowing it's gone to a good cause really makes me glad I managed to hold out as long as I did.

You know, I'm torn between Ocarina and Twilight Princess... And Majora's Mask is pretty damn spectacular, too.

your new haircut is really cute too! And it's super exciting you're almost done with this round of revision for your story! I'm super jealous you can play the violin as well. I absolutely love the violin but fail at playing it. Lindsey Stirling is my go-to girl for writing music.

  24. You've learned how to play the violin in the last year?!?! Wow, that's seriously impressive. You should be inspired by yourself! Keep up the hard work. And I'm so jealous you had 16 inches to cut off. I've tried to grow my hair out all my life and it seems to get to a point it just stops growing. So frustrating.
Good luck finishing the last of your edits. It's always a nice feeling to know something is complete.

16 inches was a lot. I don't intend on letting it get that long again anytime soon. I really don't miss the daily headaches.

      Cheers! I'm nearly there...

  26. That is a LOT of hair! And it looks great now :) I think I would cry parting with that much hair (mine has never grown further than my shoulders)!

I'm so impressed that you learnt to play the violin in a year. A year!? Wow. Isn't reading music so much fun? It's like learning a different language, and that's not counting all the Italian/German you learn along the way. Go you :)
