What's Up Wednesday

It's that time again - Erin and Jaime's What's Up Wednesday!

What I'm Reading

Finished Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon. Wow! What a book. I love it when a story aims that high and hits the mark. The Burton and Swinburne series remains a fantastic steampunk adventure, as well as being much, much more... ah, but that would be a spoiler. READ IT!

Also read Boy Nobody, a fantastic YA thriller. Read it in one go, and it's like a great episode of 24.

I'm now reading the fourth Burton and Swinburne book, The Secret of Abdu El Yezdi. So far, so good!

I will defeat my TBR Pile... even if it has grown a lot lately...

What I'm Writing

Tea + Cake = Better Editing
Space!Story's edit continues smoothly. Work has kept me very (and unexpectedly) busy the past two weeks, so I'm not as far in as I'd like. I'm revising my completion goal for this round of edits to mid-October.

What Else I'm Up To

Tea and cake with friends <3 It's lovely to spend our Sunday afternoons catching up with each other.

What Inspires Me

Swimming definitely encourages my imagination. I have another idea brewing in my head... If I can, I might give it a spin during NaNoWriMo, or perhaps I'll really sink my teeth into EvilBuilding!Story, but this year editing Space!Story is definitely my priority.

I'm in one of those iPod constantly set to shuffle moods right now... let's see what comes up...

Not bad, iPod. Not bad at all.

  1. You've made me real interested in those books.

Work has also been slowing me down.

    I love Marvin Gaye.

  3. Oh, now you've made my TBR list larger! I don't think that's something that will ever see it's end :)
Have fun working through those edits.

  5. (sorry if you get this more than once, Blogger is hungry and eating comments)

BOY NOBODY is buried somewhere on my TBR-shelf, I may have to lead a search party to dig it out!

Love that song! It's one that makes you want to get up and sing your heart out.

    1. Don't worry. Blogger ate some of mine as well.

Dig it out! It's a great, fast-paced read.

  6. I always have a gigantic TBR pile. Sometimes I wish I could just read read read and do nothing else, otherwise how will I have the time to read every book I want to?!

    1. Exactly! Who needs to worry about a day job when there are so many books to be read?!

  7. I don't think my TBR pile will ever be defeated. It keeps growing. And I'm kind of okay with that. :)

Good luck with the revisions and have a great week!

  8. I too find that swimming is a great fix for writers block, but I don't go very often. Like I think it's been more than a year since I last went swimming. Wow, no wonder my edits are going so slow.

  9. I have a tea + cookies (biscuits?) pic in my post today. I think we're on the same wavelength here. ;-) I share your goal of defeating the ever growing TBR pile once and for all. Seriously, I need to put myself on some kind of book-buying embargo. I already tried to restrain myself, but I kind of failed. It's time to make a serious dent in that pile, though. Happy to hear that Space!Story's edits are going so well. I hope you're able to squeeze in writing time despite the unexpected busyness. Have a wonderful week, Cole! :-)

    1. And a great picture it is ;)

There's one book left I reaaaaaally want and after that I intend to enact some self control... *ahem*.

  10. I'm with Alison--my TBR will outlive me. I think I'll have to will it on to my children so they can get to the books I didn't. :) Mmm... there's a germ of a story there... a will that includes a TBR list... NO! I have enough on my plate right now. Stop it!! I'll have to include story ideas in my will too, so my children can write the ones I didn't! :)

Tea and cake, tea and biscuits, tea and large slabs of Cadbury's chocolate--all good fuel for revisions. I hope your revisions go wonderfully this week, Cole, fueled by the tastiest cake and the best tea. :)

    1. ooooh, you should write that, Colin!!!!

  12. I love that you swim to get your imagination flowing. I'm the same way with running. The only thing I don't love about exercise-induced brilliant ideas is that it's hard to stop to jot down notes. Best of luck with your edits, and have a fantastic week!

Thanks! Have a great week, too! :D

  13. Mmmm, that cupcake looks so good! I think I might need to have cake with my tea this week, because that sounds like perfect writing fuel. I also think I need to come up with a strategy to defeat my TBR pile. It's turned into a monster over the past several months. You seem to be making a pretty good dent in yours lately!

Your enthusiasm in getting ready for NaNoWriMo is contagious! It makes me want to write like crazy! Have a great week and keep those ideas flowing while you swim! :)

  14. OMG! What is that coffee cup and where can I get one??

TBR piles...sigh...I actually did OK for myself this summer, but now? It's a TBR mountain. Not that I mind; I love that there are so many great books to read. But it can get frustrating to see them sitting there, begging, "Read meeeee!!!! No, read ME!!! MEMEMEME!!!!"

    1. My tea cup came from a local shop in my hometown, but I'm fairly sure Amazon and places like that will sell Scrabble mugs ^_^

Yes, my TBR pile yells for attention too. Those books shall simply have to wait their turn.

  18. BOY NOBODY looks really good, thanks for mentioning it. (Not that I needed another book for my TBR list ... ha.) And I love that you had tea and cake with friends. Something about that just sounds cozy and wonderful. In my opinion, it is a good, good thing to spend time with friends, and it's even better when you get to hang out with them while eating cake. :)

Good luck with your editing goals!

  20. Oh I hate that feeling of knowing you're not as far along in your work as you want to be. But remind yourself there are those weeks where you're like, holy cow, I'm wrote way more this week than I expected! Keep plugging away.
