What's Up Wednesday!

Doo doo dooooooo! It's time for Jaime and Erin's What's Up Wednesdaaaaaaay!

What I'm Reading

Read three books since last week - The Fallen, by Charlie Higson (good, but not the best in the series), More Than This, by Patrick Ness (Buy it. Read it. GET BACK TO ME! One of the most unique books I've ever read), and Huntress, by Malinda Lo (it was okay, but nowhere near as good as Ash. It felt very undercooked).

I'm heading back into Mark Hodder's fantastic steampunk world with his amazing Burton and Swinburne series :D

What I'm Writing

Finished my first big picture edit of Space!Story at the weekend. Now it's back to the nitty gritty stuff. But I got through the whole edit without hating the book. GO TEAM COLE!

What Else I'm Up To

Steadily approaching Grade III in the violin... the practical side of it anyway. I really need to brush up my theory ^^;

What Inspires Me

I battled my way through many technical issues to complete Bioshock 2... and then I played Bioshock Infinite... soooooo goooood... What a story! :D The music in those games is fantastic, especially the old-timey covers of 80s music in Infinite... Can't say more... spoilers ;)

There's beautiful music like this, too, used to excellent effect (trust me):

I think the original is still my favourite game of the series, but, ooooh, Infinite is up there... Anybody else played it?

More Than This is amazing. Stuck with me for days.

Exclamation points are great. Yay excitement!

Ah, violin, not piano. I'd love to play that, too. Maybe someday I will!

  14. That old-timey version of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is making my son and I laugh right now, because he's sitting across the table from me reading about World War II politics, and that version of the song sounds perfect for that era, as does the title. Very fitting!

MORE THAN THIS sounds so intriguing! I'll have to check it out sometime. Keep it up with those revisions! Team Cole is doing awesome! :D

  15. I'm actually REALLY INTERESTED in More Than This and was thinking about buying it (I need another book to get free shipping, haha). After such an endorsement, I think I might treat myself after all!

Sometimes I wish I played video games because they look so cool and the stories sound interesting too. But I just don't have the patience - though I do like watching people who know how to play play. :)

    1. That's a fine decision you've made ;) Enjoy the book!

Shame, because Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite both have amaaaaazing stories. Find someone who'll play them so you can watch :)

  18. Finishing edits without hating the book. Yay! I hope that's true for me when I'm done. So far I'm enjoying my story as I edit, though I wish I'd paid more attention to voice when I wrote the first draft. Nahh... I'd never have finished NaNo--and maybe not finished the novel--if I had!

Those turn-of-the-century, ragtime-y versions of 80s songs are fun! Thanks for sharing. :)

Have a great writing week, Cole!

    1. Exactly. Get that first draft out and fix it later!

You're welcome. That whole soundtrack is a real treat. I should post the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun remix.

      You too, Colin!

  26. Ha - I love the "editing without hating" bit. I struggle with that every time I try to edit a WIP. :) So yes, very glad to hear you were able to finish your edits without hating your WIP!

MORE THAN THIS is new to me and, based on your recommendation, I've added it to my TBR list. Thanks for mentioning it! :)
