What's Up Wednesday

Be sure to stop by Jaime and Erin's blogs and join in with this week's What's Up Wednesday!

What I'm Reading

Oooooh it's an awesome steampunk book called The Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack and you must all pick it up asap! It's really different to all the other steampunks I've read despite the London setting and I really wish I had the time to just plow through it.

What I'm Writing

It's going veeeeeeeeeeeery slow. I'm really having to force myself with RainyCity!Story right now. I'm hoping it's more of a time issue rather than a block issue... I'm determined to push through and see what happens.

What Else I'm Up To

Hump day... hump day... hump day...

It's all downhill from heeeeeere!

What Inspires Me

We had a day of really heavy rain yesterday, and my iPod chose to play a piece of music the rain enhanced wonderfully.

Here's RainyMood.com if you want to hear it with EXTRA INSPIRATION! :D

  6. Ah! Missed it, kitty!
Thanks so much for recommending that book! Honestly, I've been in search of a good steam punk and have been so disappointed with the ones I've been grabbing lately. You wouldn't happen to know of one set in the U.S. that's pretty good?

    1. It's a brilliant book! Alas, I don't know any steampunk not set in London. Hope you can find some! It's got to be out there. I bet a NYC steampunk would be aaaaaaawesome.

  7. It's the busyness not a block! (Say that over and over again like a mantra.) I hope you're able to carve out some time soon to get back to your WIP. Were you able to use the rainy day inspiration yesterday to write? It seems like it would have been a perfect backdrop for writing your story.

You know, I really need to read more steampunk. I think I have some, so I should tackle that soon. Have a great week, Cole! I hope things slow down a bit for you so you can catch your breath. :-)

    1. ;) I agree, busyness is my problem. I've been so tired these past two weeks my brain refuses to focus ^^;

Ohmigosh I cannot stop listening to the song. I have it on a loop right now. It's inspiring something alright ;)

      Thanks, Jaime!

  10. Oh that kitten!!!

Hope you push through this week. I always find setting a timer helps. I have to write for ten minutes then I can quit. I hardly ever quit :)

    1. A timer sounds like a really great idea! I am writing itty bitty bits, but I'm really hoping to get another marathon session in soon. Thanks for the advice :D Always appreciated!

  11. I need to read some more steampunk. It's a genre I like but have woefully neglected. That kitty gif is adorable! I hope the downhill part of your week goes by as quickly as you hope and that things start picking up with RainyCity!Story again soon! I'm sure one your schedule settles down the inspiration will start flowing! :)

    1. It's not always easy to find good stuff, but that book is awesome! I'd say more but I can't due to spoilers. It had a really unique concept (compared to other steampunks. I've seen an element of the plot done in sci-fi).

I certainly hope so! Next week should be a bit quieter I hope ^_^

  12. Oooh, I have a soft spot for Steampunk so I'm going to have to check that one out.

And that kitten gif made me laugh for a solid two minutes. (I lie, I'm still laughing)

And I've been in veeeeerrry slow mode. You can do this! I believe in you. (really. I do.) :)

  13. I am digging the song!

Earlier today, I told a friend that I was tired of working and was going to start my weekend early. Then I realized it was only Wednesday. So sad. But it's better than Monday, I guess :)

  15. I need to read some other steampunk to see if anyone else does it as well as Scott Westerfeld. This one's going on my TBR. :)

I hope it's time and not inspiration that's lacking for your WIP, Cole. Either way, here's hoping you get both time and inspiration to make excellent progress this week!

    1. It's soooooo not YA, so be prepared for some naughtiness. I know you're not so keen on ye olde swearwords :)

      I think it is time. It's hard to squeeze it all in sometimes ^^;

  16. I'm a Washington girl living in California and every so often, I find myself missing rain -- especially on days when I'm indoors writing. I can totally see why you'd be inspired by a rainy afternoon. Best of luck with your writing this week. Slow progress is still progress!

    1. As an Englishwoman, I have to find the rain inspirational. In fact I'm probably the only person in this country right now who could really go for a lovely rainy day ^_^

  17. Writing has been going really slow for me, too. Thank you for the encouraging comments on my blog :) It helps when other writers remind me that it's okay to need a break. I think you need to put together a list of recommended Steampunk novels!

  18. In regards to your WIP progress: GO YOU! YOU CAN DO IT! :)

I hate it when things are slow, but it's true that the only way to get past it is to go through it. Good luck!

Love that kitty gif, and oooh! A steampunk book! I do love me some steampunk!
