What's Up Wednesday

It's time for another What's Up Wednesday, hosted by Jaime and Erin!

Apologies in advance if I don't make it to your blog this week. I'm working a lot today, but I'll do my best!

What I'm Reading

Finished the Tomorrow series. I confused a major event in this one with the third book. This whole re-read has been a fascinating study in the weakness of memory!

I'm taking a slight fiction break right now. I picked up one of Charlie Brooker's books. He's a TV critic who will make you laugh yourself breathless and completely change the way you watch TV.  You can find his shows Screenwipe, Newswipe, Weekly Wipe and a few specials on Youtube. Watch some and be amazed and amused!

Here's an example (just watch out for the language! Might want headphones):

What I'm Writing

With Space!Story currently in the hands of my betas, I can finally focus on RainyCity!Story. I'm working a lot right now so I can't commit to word totals, but I can definitely say I'm writing on a daily basis :D

What Else I'm Up To

I'm in the middle of a 60 hour week right now ^^; Then next week will be 50 hours and HOORAY the week after that will be a week off. Yesterday we spent the afternoon at a giant indoor jungle gym. Chasing after a speedy one-year-old wasn't just good exercise, it was fairly inspiring for chase scenes too!

I am squeezing violin in when I can. Probably not today though. Don't think anyone wants to hear me play after 11PM :p

What Inspires Me

Be sure to check out my Top Five Film Soundtrack Tracks! I'll be posting another set of soundtrack tracks on Friday :D

Here's a taster of what's to come...

Yay, Cardcaptor Sakura's awesomely cheery theme! See you on Friday with more anime and Western animation music!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. Whoa, that's a lot of hours to work! I hope it goes by quickly, so you can enjoy your week off. It's great that you're managing to fit in a little writing everyday too and that you're able to focus on your other story now. Happy writing and child chasing this week! :)

  3. I'm impressed that you're managing to keep up with your writing under such a heavy work schedule, Cole. I hope your up-coming week off gives you plenty of opportunity to rest... though something tells me you'll be doing a lot of writing. :)

    1. Words must be written no matter what!

I intend to use large chunks of my week off to write for sure! Seven days of freedom, woo!

  4. That's awesome that you get to spend some time exclusively with RainyCity!Story. That's always nice. 60 hours a week of work is a lot! I'm happy for you that it's going to start slowing down a bit.

Hope you have a great week, Cole! :)

  5. I'm impressed you can do anything after an indoor jungle gym, they are exhausting I think its the sheer volume! Good luck with your goals this week.

Charlie Brooker is so funny. Have you seen the 10 O'Clock show? Charlie Brooker AND David Mitchell.

    1. Yeah, this one is massive and the one year old just refused to use the toddler one. She charged into the full-sized gym and I played catch up ^^;

I haven't seen that! I'll try to catch a few episodes.

  6. Wow, good luck with your long weeks! Way to go getting a little writing in every day--that's all you have to do, and eventually the thing you're writing will become the thing you've written!

  7. 60 hour weeks cannot be fun, but I hope you find time in there to decompress and do some writing too!

      Thank you ^_^

  9. 60 hours, yikes! I hope you get a break soon. I always get nervous when my stuff is with betas, but it's also an accomplishment, to know you made it that far with your novel.

  10. Cardcaptor Sakura <3 I keep meaning to watch the sub of that, I've heard it's very different from the dub. I'm also getting deja-vu, have we discussed the awesomeness of Cardcaptors before?

60 hour week?! Yikes. Good luck, I hope it all goes smoothly for you. :)

    1. We may have. You absolutely *must* watch Cardcaptor Sakura. Cardcaptors is barely a shadow of CCS' greatness. Still my favourite anime. It's so adorable!

Eh, it's as smooth as childcare (aka child wrangling) ever is :P

    1. Ooooh, you just wait. As soon as they get it, they're gone. The little one I look after is a mini Usain Bolt and she knows it. She laughs her head off during every escape attempt.

  12. Wow, sounds like you're going to be ready for that week break when it comes!
And writing every day is still great! A really good habit to get into, and one I'm still trying to form.
Hope you survive your week! :)

  13. Chasing after a speedy one year old in a jungle gym - whew. I'm exhausted for you. It's been a while since I've done that. :) Your work week sounds exhausting too! I hope you get a break soon!

And yay for RainyCity!Story! Sometimes I just have to tell myself that even getting 200 words in a day is SOMETHING - so writing every day is a wonderful goal. Good luck!

    1. I kept nodding off on the bus tonight so the week's definitely getting to me :P

I've got most of Saturday and Sunday off, so I'm almost there!

Yeah, I feel even a paragraph is something. As long as I keep ticking over :)

  14. So glad you're getting a week off! At least you have something to look forward to after all those long hours. :)

And I think you should start a new exercise class, where people chase toddlers around a jungle gym. You could make millions! :)

Hope you have a great week!

    1. The excitement of a week off is keeping me going ;) I do love my job, but I'm really worn out ^^;

That sounds like an awesome idea, *makes notes*

      Hope your week is excellent!

  15. Pantsers unite! ;)

Sorry about all the work hours, but at least you're still writing a bit each day. That's really the key...even just touching it and writing or editing a very small amount daily keep the story from growing cold on you. It's much harder to get back to writing, to sink back into the the story/world, once you've allowed it to grow cold.

    Have a fab week!

    1. WOO YEAH! :D

You're absolutely right. And the good thing is I keep thinking about the story, so I know it's not going to get away from me.

Have a wonderful week yourself :D

  16. Yay for writing every day! That's a great goal and one that I usually adhere to - the last couple of weeks have been hit or miss, though. But starting today... I'll be back on track (hopefully).

Hang in there during your long work weeks - your week off is so close! Enjoy your weekend!

  17. I'm a bit late in making the rounds, sorry! Sixty hour work weeks - BOO! I'm lucky in that my job doesn't require those kinds of hours, but I'm totally in awe of you writing everyday while working so much. That's dedication!
