Midweek Motivator - Sinister Music

Oh what a beautiful mor... wait...

If no one replies, I'll know I'm in Silent Hill...

I do so love a misty morning. Always puts me in the mood to write something creepy.  Yesterday I bought the soundtrack to Broadchurch, a fantastic crime drama that just finished airing here in the UK.  It was so chilling and really, really good, but for me the music really made it stand out.  Playing the sinister music while I edited added a very nice touch to the chapter.

Do you ever listen to a piece of music that adds an extra touch to a chapter's atmosphere?

  1. oo, that music does a sinister edge to it. I love it.

I often play music to match the mood of a scene I'm writing. It helps so much.

  2. In my restless dreams, I see that town...

I've been tempted to watch Broadchurch. Maybe one day, when I'm caught up on everything else.

  3. That picture is definitely creepy and Silent Hill-ish. It makes me want to write something creepy and atmospheric. And have a cup of tea. Foggy/grey/rainy days are perfect tea-guzzling days. :)

    2. Mmmmm tea ^_^

All I know is my sci-fi story now has a few horror-inspired moments in it ;) No matter what I do, I can't stick with a single genre.

  4. I need to get round to Broadchurch. :) Heard it was great!

I love misty mornings too. My uni was fantastic because it was quite high up so it was always extra foggy, especially at Halloween. Scared myself silly once walking back to my halls by myself through the mist at night.

I love the theme for 28 days later as sinister music. Lots of tension. :)

I walked my dorm at college in the US in the mist, listening to the Resident Evil soundtrack. I was convinced a zombie would get me :P

Ooooh awesome soundtrack. I need to dig out my copy... Thanks for reminding me of it!

    1. The early episodes probably aren't on ITV anymore, but it's fairly cheap on iTunes :D Watch and enjoy! :D

The rest of the soundtrack is equally chilling.

  6. If I ever want to creep myself out, all I have to do is stare out my window at night and try to tell myself that nothing is going to pop up and scare the crap out of me. ;) Though sinister music works, too.
