Miss Cole's Question Tree!

Today I'm sharing my Question Tree with you all! It's about as close to plotting as I can get. I use it as I write a story so I can keep track of potential plot development.  I start by asking myself a question and seeing how far the answers take me.

And do you know what that means? Another handwritten post, complete with a doodle!

...That tree makes me think of The Riddler...

Let me know if you find this useful or have a technique of your own you like to use!

  1. Ooo, very helpful. I'm trying to semi-pants this book and it's kinda scary, and this will be a helpful tool. Thanks!

  2. I love the tree! My first couple of books I just plotted as went. You can imagine how that went. I now use a spreadsheet to iron out all the details. A lot more work upfront, but way easier and more effective in the end. None of it is as pretty as your tree however.

  3. I use Post-its...lots and LOTS of Post-its! Yours is prettier though. Maybe I should arrange my Post-its into a tree shape. ;)

  4. What a great idea. I like how each question leads multiple places . . .

  5. Kris: Hope it helps!

Suze: Aw, thanks! I wish I could be as forward thinking as you, but for now my trees will have to do :)

Nicole: Oh, I am a post-it fiend too. The side of my wardrobe is dotted with all sorts! If you do form a tree, I demand photos ;)

    Anonymeet: Thanks!
